Type Locality and Naming

North-central Shandong. The Erqingshan Fm was named by You Wencheng (1979). The type section is located in Erqingshan Hill (2130 upland), Xinxin Town of Cangshan County, Shandong Province. Coordinate: E117º49´00´´; N34 º 49´00´´. Lower-middle formation in Tumen Gr.

Synonym: (二青山组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Erqingshan Fm consists mainly of quartz sandstone, light grey calcareous shale interbedded with muddy limestone with stromatolites, microplants and macrofossils of algae. It is 10-140 m thick. Lower-middle formation in Tumen Gr.

Lithology Pattern: 
Shallow-marine marl


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable onto the underlying Heishanguan Fm or unconformable onto the Taishan Complex or metamorphosed granite pluton.

Upper contact

It is disconformably overlain by the Tongjiazhuang Fm.

Regional extent

North-central Shandong. It is developed in Cangshan County and Anqiu- Juxian County, Shandong Province.
